The cost for general participants is $250, but those who apply for employment as a Juneau Pools lifeguard before the start of the class can attend for free. Both Dimond Park Aquatic Center and Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool are currently hiring lifeguards for full- and part-time positions with various shifts available.
The class has a maximum capacity of 10 people and requires certain prerequisites to be met before attending. These include completing a pre-course session in the pool prior to the first day of class, which consists of a 200-yard swim, retrieving a brick from 10 feet underwater, and treading water for two minutes. Participants must also be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
