Register now for Juneau Pools Lifeguarding Class in early January

~ Juneau Pools, a popular aquatic center in the city, has announced that they are currently seeking new lifeguards to join their team. In order to provide interested individuals with the necessary skills and certification, they will be offering a new training opportunity next month.

The Juneau Pools lifeguarding class will be held at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center and is now open for registration. Those who successfully complete the course will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, which is valid for two years.

Registration can be done online through the Parks and Rec registration catalog under the Juneau Pools tab. However, interested individuals must act fast as registration closes on Friday, December 27.

The class will run from Thursday, January 2 to Saturday, January 4 and Monday, January 6 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The cost for general participants is $250 but those who apply for employment as a Juneau Pools lifeguard by the end of the course can attend for free.

Both Dimond Park Aquatic Center and Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool are currently looking to hire part-time lifeguards for various shifts throughout the day.

The class has a maximum capacity of 10 people and there are some prerequisites that must be met before attending. These include completing a pre-course session in the pool which consists of a 200-yard swim, retrieving a brick from 10 feet underwater, and treading water for two minutes. Participants must also be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
