Register now for Juneau Pools lifeguard training class starting late July

~ Juneau Pools, a popular aquatic center in Alaska, has announced that they are currently seeking lifeguards for both full- and part-time positions. In addition, they are offering a new training opportunity next month for those interested in becoming certified lifeguards.

The July Juneau Pools lifeguarding class will be held at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center and registration is now open. This four-day course, which will take place from July 24 to July 27, will provide participants with an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification that is valid for two years.

Interested individuals can register online through the Parks and Rec registration catalog under the Juneau Pools tab. However, registration will close on Monday, July 21 so interested parties are encouraged to sign up soon.

The class schedule includes sessions on July 24 and 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on July 26 and 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost of the class is $250 for general participants, but those who submit an application for employment as a Juneau Pools lifeguard by the end of the course can attend for free.

Both Dimond Park Aquatic Center and Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool are currently hiring lifeguards for full- and part-time positions with various shifts available including early morning, daytime, and evening shifts.

The class is limited to only ten participants so interested individuals are encouraged to register as soon as possible. However, there are some prerequisites that must be met before attending the class. These include completing a pre-course session in the pool by July 22nd which consists of a 200-yard swim, brick retrieval from 10 feet, and treading water for two minutes. Participants must also be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
