~ Juneau Pools is offering a unique opportunity for individuals interested in becoming aquatics instructors. The popular swimming facility will be hosting a Water Safety Instructor certification course in August, which is available at no cost to those applying for a swim instructor position or to the general public at full price.

The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor™ course is known as the gold standard in swim instructor training. It equips candidates with the necessary skills to teach all age groups, including Learn-to-Swim Levels 4-6. This comprehensive certification is highly sought after and provides a solid foundation for those looking to pursue a career in aquatics instruction.

The course will run from August 13th to August 24th, with classes being held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as on weekends for the full day. Interested individuals can register online by August 5th. A detailed schedule of the course can be found in the Parks & Rec registration catalog.

In addition, there will be a pre-course session available on Wednesday, August 7th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Dimond Park Aquatic Center or Saturday, August 10th from 12:45-2:30 p.m. at Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool. This session is open to all participants and will provide valuable information about the course.

For those who submit a job application by the time they attend the pre-course session, the course will be free of charge. For general participants, there is a fee of $400. It is important to note that WSI candidates must have proficient swimming skills in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly.
