~ As the fall season approaches, parents of young children are eagerly looking for ways to keep their little ones active and engaged. Luckily, the Parks & Recreation department has just announced the opening of registration for their Start Smart Sports program for children ages 3-5.
According to the department's press release, registration will open on Monday, August 26 at noon and can be done online under the "Youth & Teen" tab. However, with only 23 spots available, interested parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible as it will be on a first come, first served basis. Any registrations received after all spots have been filled will be placed on a waitlist.
The Start Smart Sports sessions will take place on Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. starting September 7 through October 12. The program will be held at two different locations - Dimond Park Field House from September 7-28 and Floyd Dryden Gymnasium from October 5-12.

The cost for the program is $40 plus tax and includes a Start Smart t-shirt. For families in need of financial assistance, scholarships are available and can be applied for through an online form. Any questions regarding scholarships can be directed to Amanda Lovejoy at (907) 586-2635 ext.4156.
The Start Smart Sports program aims to introduce children to organized sports in a non-competitive and safe environment. With guidance from an adult in their lives, children will learn basic skills such as kicking, dribbling, throwing, batting and agility. It is also emphasized that adults are active participants in the program.
For more information about the program or to contact Recreation Coordinator Eric Moots, visit the program's website or call (907) 586-2635. Don't miss out on this opportunity to get your child started on their sports journey!
