~ As the new year begins, parents and guardians of young children in Juneau are eagerly anticipating the opening of registration for Parks & Recreation's Start Smart Basketball program. The program, designed for children ages 3-4, will open for registration on Monday, January 6 at noon. With only 23 spots available, interested parties are encouraged to register online under the "Youth & Teen" section as soon as possible.
The program, which costs $40 plus tax, includes a Start Smart t-shirt for each participant. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis and any registrations received after the session is full will be placed on a waitlist. However, scholarships are available for those who may need financial assistance. Interested individuals can fill out an online form to apply.

The Start Smart program is specifically tailored for 3-4 year olds and participants must be at least 3 years old by the first session. Sessions will be held every Thursday from January 30 to March 6 at Floyd Dryden gymnasium from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. During these sessions, children will work with an adult in their lives in a supportive environment to learn the basic skills of basketball such as dribbling, shooting, passing and agility. Adults are encouraged to actively participate in the program alongside their child.
