AkGlobe News/10277645

~ Juneau Parks & Recreation is once again encouraging residents to stay active and explore the beautiful outdoors with their annual virtual trek from Juneau to Ketchikan. The event, called Walk Southeast, is a free and fun activity that allows participants to track their miles walked, run, or hiked between May 1 and September 1.

Participants can register for the event now through May 6 on the Juneau Parks & Recreation website under the Special Events tab. By logging their miles, participants have the chance to win prizes in a local drawing or even two round-trip tickets from Alaska Airlines.

Walk Southeast is a region-wide activity created by Juneau Parks & Recreation. This year, Sitka has joined Juneau, Ketchikan, Petersburg, and Wrangell in competing for the title of 2024 Walk Southeast champion. The community with the highest average of miles walked per participant will be awarded this prestigious title.

While walkers in these communities can register locally, those living in other Southeast communities can also participate by registering through Juneau Parks & Recreation. To be eligible for prizes, participants must be registered, live in Southeast Alaska, walk at least 150 miles, and submit their tracker by September 3.

There are two options for tracking miles: a traditional fillable/printable PDF Mileage Tracker or the My Virtual Mission app. All details about the event can be found on the Walk Southeast webpage or Facebook event.

To kick off the challenge on Sunday, May 5 from 1-2:30 p.m., Juneau Parks & Recreation will be hosting an event at Twin Lakes. Participants can receive assistance setting up their My Virtual Mission app and enter a prize drawing while enjoying a walk along the lake. Door prizes will also be drawn throughout the event and a group photo will be taken at approximately 2 p.m.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to stay active and potentially win some great prizes. Register now and start logging those miles for Walk Southeast!
