~ Juneau, Alaska - The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly has announced a series of public hearings to be held on Monday, November 18, 2024. The meetings will take place at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers and will also be accessible via Zoom webinar.
According to the agenda posted on the CBJ website, the public is invited to participate in these hearings either in-person or remotely. However, due to time constraints, testimony will be limited by Mayor's discretion based on the number of participants.
For those wishing to provide oral testimony remotely, they must notify the Municipal Clerk's office by 4 p.m. on the day of the meeting and indicate which topics they wish to speak on. In-person participants do not need to sign up in advance and can do so upon arrival at the Chambers.
In addition, members of the public are encouraged to submit their comments in advance of the meeting via email.
The main items on the agenda for these hearings include several ordinances and a resolution. Ordinance 2023-14(b)(AS) proposes an appropriation of $985,000 for operating costs for Fiscal Year 2024 for the City and Borough of Juneau. This funding will come from Airport Funds and Eaglecrest Funds.

Another ordinance up for discussion is Ordinance 2024-01(b)(O), which seeks an appropriation of $86,000 for the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Capital Improvement Project. This funding will be provided by a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration.
Ordinance 2024-01(b)(Q) proposes deappropriating $1,000,000 from General Funds and appropriating it as local matching funds for a United States Army Corps of Engineers Glacier Outburst Flooding General Investigation Study.
The next ordinance on the agenda is Ordinance 2024-01(b)(R), which seeks an appropriation of $50,000 for the maintenance of the Arboretum Manager's Residence. This funding will come from Jensen-Olson Arboretum Endowment Funds.
Ordinance 2024-01(b)(S) proposes an appropriation of $2,000,000 for the Public Safety Communication Infrastructure Capital Improvement Project. This funding will be provided by a grant from the United States Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

The final ordinance on the agenda is Ordinance 2024-35, which authorizes the Manager to lease a portion of land near Crazy Horse Drive to the Federal Aviation Administration for continued placement of weather monitoring equipment.
In addition to these ordinances, Resolution 3051 will also be discussed. This resolution petitions the Alaska State Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to issue up to 20 additional restaurant or eating place licenses within the City and Borough of Juneau under Alaska Statute 04.11.405.
The Clerk's office has also announced that accommodations for individuals with disabilities are available upon request. Those in need of closed captioning or sign language interpreter services should contact the Clerk's office at least 36 hours prior to any meeting.
