Juneau Pools to offer lifeguard class April 12-14

~ Juneau Pools, operated by Parks and Recreation, will be offering a lifeguarding class at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center from April 12-14. This class will provide participants with the opportunity to earn an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, which is valid for two years.

Registration for the class will open on Friday, March 29 at 8 a.m. and will close on Thursday, April 11 at noon. Interested individuals can register online through the Parks and Rec registration catalog under the Juneau Pools tab.

The class will be held over three days, with the first session taking place on Friday, April 12 from 4-8 p.m. The following two days, Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14, will run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with an hour-long lunch break included.

The cost for general participants is $250. However, those who submit an application for employment as a Juneau Pools lifeguard at the end of the course can attend for free. Please note that only a maximum of 10 people can participate in this class.

In order to be eligible for the lifeguarding class, participants must complete a pre-course session in the pool prior to the first day of class. This includes a 300-yard swim, retrieving a brick from a depth of 10 feet, and treading water for two minutes. Additionally, all participants must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
