~ Juneau, Alaska - As the snowfall in Juneau finally comes to an end on January 24, the city is experiencing a much-needed break in the weather. Temperatures are rising and streets are slowly starting to clear up, although there is still a significant amount of snow and ice present.
The city officials are urging residents to continue avoiding unnecessary travel as much as possible. This not only ensures their own safety but also allows the CBJ Streets crew to effectively move large equipment such as plows and graders through narrow streets.
The community, along with the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ), is grateful for this break in the weather. It will give the hardworking crews an opportunity to clear the remaining streets and remove snow from roads and sidewalks.
Over the past eleven days, CBJ Streets & Fleets Maintenance and Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities have been working tirelessly to keep the streets clear despite near-record amounts of snow falling in short periods of time. They have been working around the clock, mobilizing contractors, sourcing additional equipment, and utilizing every member of their division with a commercial driver's license.

Other teams such as Capital Transit, Parks Maintenance, Landscape Maintenance, Docks & Harbors, private contractors, and good neighbors have also put in exhaustive hours to keep sidewalks, pathways, parking lots, docks, and other public spaces clear.
The community is being asked for their patience and understanding as everyone works together to get unburied from this lengthy and sustained snowfall. CBJ offices and facilities are closed for in-person business today but remain open via phone and email.
For more information on snow removal procedures, residents can visit CBJ Winter Maintenance Information. Important guidance on drain and hydrant clearance, roof snow loads, and other updates can be found on the CBJ Newsroom website.
As Juneau slowly returns to its normal routine after this intense winter weather event, the city officials and residents are grateful for everyone's hard work and cooperation.
