Juneau: Out of town this fall? Here’s how to vote in the 2025 Municipal Election

~ Juneau, Alaska - As the 2025 Municipal Election approaches, Juneau voters are gearing up to make their selections for the Juneau Assembly and Board of Education, as well as weigh in on several ballot propositions. With more ways than ever to cast a ballot, it's important for voters to make a plan, especially if they will be out of town during the election period.

According to the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) press release, regular municipal elections are conducted by-mail, meaning that all registered Juneau voters will automatically receive a ballot in the mail. Voters have multiple options for returning their ballots, including mailing them back, dropping them off at a ballot drop box, or voting in person at a Vote Center. Ballots will be mailed out on September 19 and must be postmarked or returned no later than 8pm on Tuesday, October 7.

For those who will be out of town during the election period, there are still ways to cast their vote. One option is to fill out a temporary address application and receive their ballot at a different mailing location. The form must be submitted by Friday, September 19 for the temporary address to be included in the initial ballot mail-out. Applications received after this date will still be processed but may not arrive in time for the October 7 deadline. The final deadline to submit a temporary address application is Tuesday October 1.

It's important for voters to keep in mind that ballots must be postmarked no later than October 7 and received by October 21 in order to be eligible for counting. For those who have doubts about this timing, an e-ballot may be a better option. By filling out an e-ballot/fax application, voters can receive their ballot via email or fax. The final deadline to submit an e-ballot application is 5 p.m. Alaska Time on October 6 and e-ballots will be sent out during the week of September 23. Ballots returned by email or fax must arrive by 8 p.m. Alaska Time on October 7, while those returned by postal mail must be postmarked by October 7 and received by October 21.
