Monday ~ As the community continues to recover from the recent glacial flood, Waste Management (WM) Capitol Disposal Landfill has announced an expansion of its hours for residential customers to self-haul to the landfill. Effective August 8, residents will now have extended hours until further notice.
According to WM, the new hours for residential self-hauling are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The landfill will be closed on Sundays. It is important for residents to note that documentation is required for all loads and they must complete a non-asbestos certification form before arriving at the landfill.

In addition, residents who choose to self-haul can potentially receive reimbursement for their expenses through Alaska's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. If approved for Individual Assistance (IA) by the State, residents can receive up to $1,500 in reimbursement by providing receipts of payment and applying online or via the hotline at 1-844-445-7131.
The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) is also working with the State of Alaska to collect disaster debris in the coming days. More information will be provided as it becomes available and residents are encouraged to stay updated through CBJ's updates.
For more information on IA funding and how to apply, visit ready.alaska.gov/Recovery/IA. The community is reminded to stay vigilant and continue following safety protocols during this recovery process.
