With clean ~ Juneau, Alaska - As the clean-up efforts continue in the aftermath of the recent floods, debris collection crews will be working throughout the weekend to collect waste and debris from the streets. The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) and Department of Transportation (DOT) crews will be out from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Residents who are still in the process of cleaning up their homes need not worry as CBJ will continue to make pick-ups throughout the clean-up effort. However, officials urge residents to take care of themselves while working in the hot and sunny weather this weekend. It is important to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and take frequent breaks in the shade whenever possible.
For those who require assistance with flood recovery, there are still resources available. Although Disaster Assistance Centers are winding down, in-person help is still available for those who have questions about applying for Individual Assistance. They can call (907) 632-2165 to schedule a meeting with helpers from Alaska Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management.
The American Red Cross is also providing immediate financial assistance for those whose primary residences were destroyed or sustained eligible damage. Residents can call (907) 646-5467 to make an appointment at the Red Cross assistance center.

The Melvin Park volunteer center will also be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Trained volunteers will be dispatched to homes that still require assistance with drying and mucking out. The center has made significant progress in tackling urgent needs thanks to additional support from Team Rubicon volunteers who have traveled to Juneau for the week.
Residents who are in need of volunteer assistance can reach out at bit.ly/juneau-flood.
For property owners whose homes or properties were damaged in the flooding, they are encouraged to request partial property tax relief from CBJ Assessor's Office. The office will provide more information and guidance in the coming days, but property owners can fill out the Disaster Relief form and submit it along with photos of the damage via email or postal mail.
The CBJ Assessor's Office can be reached at (907) 586-5215 ext 4033 or by email at assessor@juneau.org.
An update on the flood response will also be provided at the August 19 Assembly meeting. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and will take place at Centennial Hall instead of the Assembly Chambers in City Hall. Residents can also join remotely over Zoom and testify by contacting the Clerk's Office beforehand.
