~ Juneau, Alaska - As the recovery efforts from the recent flood in Juneau continue, some of the partners involved are returning to their day jobs as the pace of the labor-intensive work slows down. The Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT) announced on Wednesday that their crews and equipment have stood down after two weeks of non-stop debris hauling. This also includes equipment operators from various parts of the state who had traveled to Juneau to assist in hauling over 4000 cubic yards of debris.

In addition, the Alaska National Guard has also demobilized after providing two weeks of support to help Juneau recover. A total of 60 service members were involved in tasks such as cleaning and mucking out homes, delivering supplies, hauling debris, and providing transportation.

The community is immensely grateful for the unwavering support from these organizations and their tremendous help in this time of need.

As the volume of disaster debris has significantly decreased over the past few days, collection efforts will now be scaled down. However, crews from CBJ (City and Borough of Juneau) will continue to do regular rounds as residents continue to clear their homes. Collection will be limited over this upcoming weekend (August 24 & 25) but will return at full strength on Monday, August 26. Residents are reminded to move their debris to the right-of-way for pick up.

Furthermore, for those who have been hauling their own flood debris, please take note that Friday, August 23 is the last day to take advantage of expanded residential hours at Waste Management's Capitol Disposal Landfill. Starting Saturday, August 24, standard hours will resume with residential customers being accepted from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. The cooperation of Waste Management in providing extended hours for critically impacted residents is greatly appreciated.
