~ Juneau, AK- As the city of Juneau enters its third week of response and recovery following the devastating Mendenhall River flooding on August 6, new information is slowing down. In order to keep the public informed, updates will now be provided 2-3 times a week on Facebook or at juneau.org/manager/flood-response.
On August 19, the CBJ Assembly passed an emergency resolution appropriating $1.055 million for infrastructure repairs and flood response. These funds will be immediately used for debris and waste removal ($150,000), emergency repairs at the Mendenhall Wastewater Treatment Plant ($400,000), stormwater system repairs ($355,000), and a glacier outburst flood mitigation working group ($150,000).
During the meeting, CBJ staff provided updates on flood response and took questions from both the Assembly and the public. A full recording of the meeting will be available tomorrow on CBJ's YouTube channel for those who would like to hear more.
