~ Early this morning, at 3:15 a.m on Tuesday, August 6, the Mendenhall River reached its peak at 15.99 feet. The sudden rise in water levels caused significant flooding, displacement, and property damage for many residents in the Valley area.

Fortunately, the water is now receding rapidly and is expected to be out of the moderate flood stage by late morning. However, the effects of the flood are still being felt by those affected.

To assist those who have been displaced, the hours at the Floyd Dryden emergency shelter have been extended through Tuesday afternoon. The shelter remains available for anyone in need.
