~ Juneau, Alaska - Students and staff at Mendenhall River Community School (MRCS) were relocated to Thunder Mountain Middle School (TMMS) today as a precautionary measure due to concerns about the snow load on the gymnasium roof. The decision was made after engineers conducted a walk-through of the building this morning.
According to a statement from the Juneau School District, the building was initially cleared for occupancy and roof shoveling was scheduled to begin tomorrow. However, during a second inspection, it was discovered that the gymnasium's roof is constructed differently than the rest of the school building, raising concerns about its ability to withstand heavy snow.
