~ Juneau, Alaska - The Mendenhall River has recently experienced unprecedented glacial outburst flooding, causing significant damage to the surrounding community. In response to this disaster, the Juneau Community Foundation has reestablished the Mendenhall Flood Relief Fund to provide support to those affected.

The fund, which was originally created in 2014 after a similar flooding event, aims to assist individuals and businesses who have suffered significant losses due to the recent flooding. The foundation is actively fundraising at this time and is grateful for the generosity of many businesses, tourism industry members, foundations, and individuals in Juneau and beyond.

Thanks to the assistance of the Juneau Economic Development Council's Alaska Development Corporation, funds will be distributed directly to those impacted by the flooding. The foundation is currently accepting donations through their website or by mail.

Individuals who have experienced significant loss as a result of the flooding are encouraged to apply for relief funds by filling out an application and accompanying W9 form. The deadline for applications is October 30th, 2024 at 5 p.m. Alaska time. Funds will be disbursed in December of that year.

The Juneau Community Foundation can be contacted at (907) 523-5450 for more information on how to donate or other methods of donation. The community is coming together during this difficult time to support those affected by the Mendenhall River flooding and any contribution is greatly appreciated.
