~ The City and Borough of Juneau is seeking public input on how to allocate the proceeds from the Marine Passenger Fee (MPF) for the upcoming year. The draft proposal, which can be found on the MPF website, outlines recommendations for spending funds from the $5 City and Borough of Juneau Marine Passenger Fee, $3 CBJ Port Development Fee, and the $5 State of Alaska Commercial Passenger Vessel Fee.

According to projections by CBJ, an estimated 1.65 million passengers will visit Juneau this year, resulting in approximately $21.5 million in revenue for fiscal year 2026. In December, CBJ opened up proposals for projects to be funded with MPF proceeds from city departments and the public, including businesses and the visitor industry.

Alexandra Pierce, Visitor Industry Director for CBJ, has recommended 29 funding allocations for operating, grant, and capital projects. These include a covered bus stop on Mendenhall Loop Road, dock safety cameras on the downtown seawalk, and improvements to Marine Park. Other proposed projects include funding for shore power and upgrades to the water and wastewater system.

The public is encouraged to submit comments on these recommendations by May 7th through email or mail to Alexandra Pierce at the City Manager's Office. All project proposals and comments will be reviewed by the Assembly Finance Committee before being presented to the Assembly during the upcoming budget cycle.

For more information on the MPF program or how to submit comments, individuals can contact Alexandra Pierce or visit the Marine Passenger Fee Program website. The deadline for comments is fast approaching, so interested parties are urged to share their thoughts before May 7th.
