Juneau: Legislation coming up for Public Hearing at Assembly Meetings – including CBJ Budget, Mill Levy Ordinances & CIP Resolution

~ The City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska Assembly has announced a series of public hearings to be held on June 3rd and June 17th, 2024. The meetings will take place at the Assembly Chambers and will also be accessible via Zoom webinar.

According to the press release, the agenda and packet material for the meetings will be available on the CBJ website by close of business on the day prior to the meetings. The public is encouraged to participate either in-person or through remote participation via Zoom. However, testimony time will be limited by the Mayor based on the number of participants.

Individuals who wish to provide oral testimony through remote participation must notify the Municipal Clerk by 4pm on the day of the meeting. They can do so by calling 907-586-5278 and indicating which topics they wish to testify on. For those who prefer in-person participation, a sign-up sheet will be available at the back of the Chambers and advance sign-up is not required.

The first meeting on June 3rd will begin at 6:00pm with a Special Assembly Meeting followed immediately by an Assembly Committee of the Whole meeting. The public can access these meetings through https://juneau.zoom.us/j/95424544691 or by calling 1-253-215-8782 with Webinar ID: 954 2454 4691.

During this meeting, three items are scheduled for public hearing: Ordinance 2024-03 which establishes property tax rates for Calendar Year 2024 based on proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025; Resolution 3052 which adopts City and Borough Capital Improvement Program for Fiscal Years 2025 through 2030 and sets priorities for Fiscal Year 2025; and Ordinance 2024-01 which appropriates funds from Treasury for FY25 City and Borough Operations.

The second meeting on June 17th will begin at 7:00pm and will be a Regular Assembly Meeting. The public can access this meeting through https://juneau.zoom.us/j/91515424903 or by calling 1-253-215-8782 with Webinar ID: 915 1542 4903.

During this meeting, the only item scheduled for public hearing is Ordinance 2023-14(b)(AI) which appropriates $74,000 to the Manager for the Crisis Stabilization Capital Improvement Project. This funding is provided by a donation from the Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation.

The press release also states that ADA accommodations are available upon request. Individuals can contact the Clerk's office at least 36 hours prior to any meeting to arrange for closed captioning or sign language interpreter services, depending on the meeting format.
