~ As the spring season arrives in Juneau, households are busy with their annual cleaning sprees. This often leads to the passing along of furniture and other large items to new owners. However, the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) is reminding residents to be mindful of where they place these items.

CBJ Streets & Fleets is kindly asking all households to refrain from leaving items in the Right Of Way (ROW). Instead, they are urging residents to set out these items within the boundaries of their own property. This is important in order to keep ROWs clear for maintenance purposes.

According to CBJ, it is crucial for ROWs to remain clear so that crews can properly clear drainage, maintain safe sightlines, and repair surfaces. Any items left in CBJ ROWs will be removed and disposed of at the expense of taxpayers.

For those who need assistance disposing of large or bulky items, Alaska Waste, a private company operating in Juneau, offers curbside pickup services. More information can be found on their website at alaskawaste.com.

Residents can also visit Streets & Fleets' Summer Maintenance Information page for more information about ROWs and CBJ's Solid Waste Planning page and RecycleWorks homepage for information about trash and recycling in Juneau. Let's all do our part in keeping our city clean and well-maintained this spring season.
