~ Juneau, Alaska - The City and Borough of Juneau will be observing the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, June 19. In honor of this federal and state holiday, most CBJ offices and facilities will be closed for the entire day.
Among the facilities that will be closed are City Hall, Juneau Public Libraries, the Juneau-Douglas City Museum, Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool, and Dimond Park Field House. However, some facilities will remain open for limited hours or specific activities.
Capital Transit service will continue to run as normal throughout the day. The Dimond Park Aquatic Center will also be open for limited hours with open swims from 12 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, the Jenson-Olson Arboretum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

RecycleWorks will also maintain its regular hours with the Recycling Center open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Household Hazardous Waste disposal available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Shéiyi X̱aat Hít Youth Shelter will remain open for its usual 24-hour service while the Zach Gordon Youth Center will host its Camera Speaks Camp from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This is the first year that the Juneteenth holiday will be observed at the municipal level in Juneau after it was approved by the Assembly on June 11, 2025. Residents are encouraged to take part in this important holiday by attending local events or taking time for personal reflection on this significant day in American history.
