~ Juneau Pools Announces Registration for Summer Swim Lessons and New Prerequisite System
Juneau Pools has announced that registration for their summer swim lessons will open later this month. However, there is a new prerequisite system in place for swimmers who wish to sign up for classes at Level 2 or higher.
According to the new system, swimmers must meet one of two requirements in order to register for these higher level classes. They must either have successfully passed the previous class level at Juneau Pools since November 2023, or they must attend a swim lesson placement session.
It is important to note that even if a swimmer has taken lessons before November 2023, they will still need to attend the placement session. This is necessary for instructors to assess their current skill level and ensure that they are placed in the appropriate class. This is crucial in creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all swimmers.

The placement session takes only 15 minutes and will be offered on several days this month. These include Saturday, May 11 at Augustus Brown Pool, Tuesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 16 at Dimond Park Aquatic Center. The sessions will be divided into groups based on age: Preschool (ages 3-5) and Youth (ages 6-12).
Registration for the placement sessions can be done through the Parks and Rec registration catalog by clicking on the Juneau Pools tab starting Friday, May 3 at noon. The event is free of charge.
If a swimmer does not meet the prerequisites, they will only be able to register for Level 1 classes. More information about registering for summer swim lessons will be available soon.
For any questions about swim lessons or the new prerequisite system, interested individuals can contact Ellen Johnston at (907) 586-0839 ext.4143.
Juneau Pools is committed to providing quality swim lessons and ensuring that each swimmer is placed in the appropriate class for their skill level. Stay tuned for more details on summer swim lesson registration.
