~ Juneau, Alaska - The CBJ Parks & Recreation Department has proudly announced that Evergreen Cemetery has received a Level 1 Accreditation from The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum. This prestigious recognition is awarded to arboreta and botanic gardens that meet specific standards of professional practices.
The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program is a global initiative that recognizes arboreta at different levels of development, capacity, and professionalism. Evergreen Cemetery has also been added to the Morton Register of Arboreta, a database of the world's arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.
With this accreditation, Evergreen Cemetery joins the Jensen-Olson Arboretum as Juneau's only certified and accredited arboreta. Established in 1891 and deeded to CBJ in 1907, Evergreen Cemetery is now operated and maintained by CBJ Parks & Recreation.
