Juneau: Emergency warming shelter opens Tuesday, October 15

~ Juneau, AK - The City and Borough of Juneau has announced the opening of a seasonal emergency warming shelter on Tuesday, October 15. Located at 1325 Eastaugh Way, off of Thane Road, the shelter will be operated by St. Vincent de Paul Juneau.

According to city officials, the shelter will be open daily from 9 p.m. to 6:45 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 p.m. to 7:45 a.m. on Sundays. In order to provide transportation for those in need, shuttle services will be available between Mendenhall Valley and downtown Juneau in the morning and evening.

The morning shuttle will depart shortly after the shelter closes for the day. More information about evening transportation will be released soon.

St. Vincent de Paul is also accepting donations of cold weather gear such as warm hats, gloves, socks, and hand/foot warmers at their office located at 8617 Teal Street during daytime office hours (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or at the warming shelter during its operating hours.

This initiative aims to provide a safe and warm place for individuals experiencing homelessness during the colder months in Juneau. The community is encouraged to support this effort by donating cold weather gear or volunteering at the shelter.
