~ On September 10, 2025, the CBJ Utilities Division reported a second Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) event at the Outer Drive Pump Station in Downtown Juneau. The event occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. and lasted until 2:30 a.m. the following day, resulting in a discharge of wastewater and storm water into the Gastineau Channel.

According to the CBJ Utilities Division, the second discharge was caused by heavy precipitation that overwhelmed the outdated Outer Drive (OD) wastewater pump station. This comes after a previous notice stating that the OD station is currently undergoing a major reconstruction project to prevent such events from occurring in the future.

Samples of the discharged water were found to be very dilute, indicating minimal environmental impact. However, as per Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) permitting requirements, CBJ is obligated to inform the public of any CSO events. ADEC has also been notified of this incident.

For further information on this matter, interested parties can contact the CBJ Utility at 907-586-0393. The CBJ Utilities Division urges residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions during heavy precipitation events to help prevent future CSO events.
