~ As temperatures continue to drop in the coming days, residents of Juneau are being urged to take necessary precautions to prevent their water pipes from freezing. The City and Borough of Juneau has issued a statement emphasizing the importance of properly insulating and maintaining water pipes to avoid potential damage and inconvenience.
According to the city, pipes that are not properly insulated or maintained are at risk of freezing and bursting, which can result in a loss of running water and potential flooding. To prevent this from happening, the city recommends several preventive measures including leaving a small trickle of water running in sinks, closing crawl space vents, ensuring proper insulation and functioning heat tapes, and disconnecting hoses and insulating hose bibs.
