~ As the cold temperatures continue to grip Juneau, residents are taking precautions to prevent their pipes from freezing. One common method is to continuously run water from their home taps. However, the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Utilities Division is urging residents to be mindful of their water usage in order to avoid overtaxing the water supply.
According to the CBJ Utilities Division, running water from just one indoor tap on an exterior facing wall is enough to prevent water service lines from freezing. It is important for residents to limit this continuous flow to just a trickle, described as "pencil lead-thin." This means that the flow should be slightly more than a drip, as shown in the photo and video provided by the division.

While it is crucial for residents to take precautions against frozen pipes, it is equally important for them to do so in a responsible manner. The CBJ Utilities Division appreciates the community's cooperation during this extreme weather and asks that any media inquiries be directed towards them.
