Juneau: CBJ urges residents to stop flushing disinfecting wipes & gloves down the toilet
AkGlobe News/10071716

Sewer systems across the country are being clogged from disinfecting wipes, gloves, and toilet paper alternatives being flushed down the toilet. The City and Borough of Juneau Utilities has seen evidence of this happening locally and urges residents to stop flushing disinfecting wipes and gloves down the toilet.

Unlike toilet paper, wipes, gloves, paper towels, and other similar materials do not disintegrate properly. They can clog pipes, cause sewer lines to break, and puts a strain on the local wastewater treatment facilities and staff. Even "flushable" wipes can lead to sewer backups and should not be flushed.

Always put these items in the trash:
• All wipes: baby, facial, cleaning
• Latex gloves
• Paper towels and napkins
• Tissues

Other items that should never be flushed: tampon applicators, sanitary napkins medication, hair, dental floss, cotton swabs/balls, bandages, rags or towels, any plastic items, and fats, oils, and grease. These also cause issues with the sewer system. Thank you for your cooperation.
