~ Juneau, Alaska - The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) is facing severe winter weather and ongoing snowfall, resulting in the closure or limited operations of facilities and services on December 28.
According to CBJ crews, they have been working tirelessly through the night to keep up with the snowfall. Their priority has been to clear major arterials first, followed by residential streets. However, with more rain and snow in the forecast, residents are being urged to stay off the roads for their own safety and that of others until the storm passes.
As a result of the inclement weather, all Juneau Public Library locations and Parks & Recreation facilities will be closed today. This includes popular spots such as the Dimond Park Field House, Dimond Park Aquatic Center, Augustus G. Brown Pool, and Treadwell Arena. The Shéiyi X̱aat Hit Youth Shelter will remain open for those in need.

In addition to facility closures, Capital Transit will be operating on winter routes with some adjustments for safety reasons. There will be no service on Glacier Highway between the Federal Building and Bartlett Hospital until conditions improve. Similarly, there will be no service up Cordova Street to Cedar Park on Douglas Island. Passengers are advised to wait for the bus at the Breeze In stop instead. Furthermore, there will be no service on Franklin or 4th street in Downtown Juneau. Passengers should wait for the bus at the Downtown Transit Center stop.
Due to road closures caused by heavy snowfall, Fish Creek Road and Eaglecrest Ski Area will also be temporarily closed until conditions improve.
CBJ officials are closely monitoring the storm and road conditions and will provide an update on facility operations for Monday, December 29 when it becomes available.
