~ Juneau, Alaska - As the city continues to experience an unprecedented snowfall event, the City and Borough of Juneau has issued an update on avalanche conditions as of 8:20 AM on December 31, 2025.
According to officials, there has been no change in the avalanche hazards this morning. However, residents living above Behrends Avenue and Thane Road are advised to remain alert and prepared as avalanche conditions in these areas remain elevated.
While this is not an evacuation advisory, residents are urged to have a go-bag ready and keep their phones charged with alerts enabled. They should also be prepared to evacuate quickly if conditions worsen. Additionally, travel in avalanche-exposed areas should be limited.

Thane Road remains closed at the avalanche gates due to continued risk of avalanches. The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is actively assessing conditions and will provide another update at around 12:00 PM.
The City and Borough of Juneau's Emergency Programs team is closely monitoring the situation and working with DOT&PF and the National Weather Service. Updates will be shared as conditions change.
