~ Juneau, Alaska - The city of Juneau has lifted the evacuation advisory for all slide paths, including the Behrends pathway, as of this morning. However, residents are reminded to remain vigilant as the risk from avalanche hazard remains elevated and future evacuation advisories are possible.
According to the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ), they are actively monitoring and assessing avalanche risk for all known slide paths and will continue to provide updates as conditions change. Despite heavy rain, high winds, and warm temperatures at high elevations, no avalanche activity was reported overnight.

In order to better assess the snowpack and current avalanche conditions, forecasters utilized drones from the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (AKDOT&PF) to conduct a visual inspection of the Behrends path this morning. The fact that upper start zones were saturated with rain last night and did not release, combined with reduced snow levels at lower elevations, has brought the risk back to an acceptable level for now.
In addition, AKDOT&PF has opened Thane Road this morning. Residents can find current hazard advisories and preparedness information at bit.ly/CBJavalanche. More information about the current avalanche hazard and snowpack conditions can also be found on CBJ's Avalanche Advisor website at juneau.org/emergency/avalanche-information.
