~ Juneau, Alaska - After a historic storm this week, the city of Juneau is facing elevated avalanche risks on Mount Juneau slide paths. According to the latest press release from the city's Department of Emergency Management, no significant new snowfall is expected until early next week. However, residents are advised to remain vigilant and informed about their risk by visiting the city's avalanche advisory page.
The White Subdivision, Behrends Ave, and all neighborhoods below Mount Juneau are currently affected by the elevated avalanche risk. The conditions created by this week's storm may persist for an extended period, requiring continued awareness even without daily changes. It is important for residents to note that conditions can change quickly with little warning.

In response to these risks, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has completed their avalanche hazard reduction work this morning. As a result, Thane Road has been reopened for travel. However, drivers are reminded not to stop in the avalanche zone and to use caution while traveling on Thane Road.
Moving forward, the city will only issue alerts if conditions worsen or major changes are observed. It is important for residents to note that the absence of an alert does not mean the hazard has diminished. Current hazard levels can be found at bit.ly/CBJavalanche.
While this is not an evacuation advisory, residents are urged to remain alert and have a go-bag ready in case of emergency. It is also important for them to stay signed up for emergency alerts in order to stay informed about any potential changes or risks.
