~ As the summer season approaches, Capital Transit in Juneau, Alaska is gearing up for some changes to their schedules and routing. Starting on Monday, April 21, the transit system will be implementing expanded service hours on weekends and holidays, an additional inbound express run, and a new stop near Safeway.
According to the press release from Capital Transit, riders can find updated schedules either on the bus or online at juneaucapitaltransit.org/schedules. They can also use Google Maps Transit Directions by specifying a date of April 21 or later. Additionally, riders now have the option to purchase bus fares and passes through Capital Transit's new Token Transit app on their phones. More information about this feature can be found at juneaucapitaltransit.org/fares.
One of the major changes for the summer season is an extension of Sunday service hours to match Saturday levels. This means that buses will begin running earlier in the morning and continue until approximately five hours later in the evening compared to winter schedules. This change aims to provide more convenient options for riders on Sundays.

Another change is the addition of weekend service for Route 8 Downtown/Valley express route. This route will now operate from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, in addition to its regular Monday-Friday schedule.
On Memorial Day (Monday, May 26) and Labor Day (Monday, September 1), all routes will operate on normal schedules.
In terms of routing changes, Route 4 Mendenhall Valley will now make a stop at Vintage Boulevard and Clinton Drive (stop #573), near Safeway and SEARHC Campus. This stop falls between Valley Transit Center (stop #600) and Juneau Job Center (stop #455). Additionally, Route 8 Valley Express will travel non-stop on Egan Drive from downtown's 12th Street to the Western Auto stop. This means that during the summer, Route 8 will not service four stops: #406 – Glacier Avenue & Behrends Avenue (JDHS), #407 – Glacier Avenue & Ross Way, #408 – Glacier Highway at 1547 Glacier Highway (S-Curves), and #409 – Glacier Highway & Wickersham Street. Riders who need to access these stops can use Route 3 or 4 Mendenhall Valley instead.
For more information about these changes, riders can visit juneaucapitaltransit.org or call (907) 789-6901. Capital Transit encourages riders to plan ahead and familiarize themselves with the new schedules and routing changes before they go into effect on April 21.
