~ Juneau residents are being advised to be cautious as Suicide Basin has begun to refill. According to the latest update on September 10, the water levels in the basin are similar to those observed in June 2024.

This comes after a series of releases from the basin in 2023, following a major flooding event in August. The releases at lower fill levels have allowed water to leave the basin with less impact on the Mendenhall River area. However, if the basin continues to fill, there is a possibility of another major event occurring.

To stay informed about conditions at Suicide Basin, residents can visit the National Weather Service's monitoring page at weather.gov/ajk/SuicideBasin. Additionally, maps modeling floodwater inundation levels can be found at water.noaa.gov/gauges/MNDA2 by clicking on "Activate MNDA2 FIM Gauge."
