~ The CBJ Community Development Department has announced the opening of the application period for local projects to apply for the 2025 Alaska Department of Transportation Human Services Transportation Grant. This grant, which will begin funding in FY2026, aims to ensure that elderly persons and persons with disabilities have access and mobility similar to the general population through the use of transit facilities and services.

According to the press release, applications for this grant are due by 3 p.m. on Monday, August 25. Local communities will have the opportunity to set priorities and approve projects that will then proceed with a state grant application.

To ensure that projects align with the 2020 Juneau Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan and coordinate with existing public transportation services and human services transportation options in the community, the Juneau Coordinated Transportation Coalition (JCTC) will hold a preliminary competition as part of the local process.

A timeline with key dates and necessary forms can be found on juneau.org under the Meetings tab. The JCTC will also hold a meeting on Thursday, August 28 at 3 p.m. to review and prioritize projects. This meeting will be held via Zoom and is open to the public.

In last year's competition, Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL, Inc.) was awarded $148,000 for a replacement Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Taxi for their Accessible Taxi Program.
