~ Juneau, Alaska - As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, the City and Borough of Juneau has announced that all government offices will be closed on Friday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, July 7.
In preparation for the holiday, CBJ has released a list of closures and changes to facilities and services. Capital Transit and CAPITAL AKcess will not be operating on Friday, July 4 but will resume service on Saturday, July 5. The Dimond Park Aquatic Center and Augustus Brown Pool will also be closed on Friday, with the Dimond Park Field House following suit.
Residents are advised that Household Hazardous Waste will be closed for residential drop-off from Tuesday, July 1 to Saturday, July 5. However, the Jensen-Olson Arboretum will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.
For book lovers, all Juneau Public Libraries will be closed on Friday but book drops will remain open until 8 p.m. on Thursday before being locked until Saturday morning. The Juneau-Douglas City Museum and Recycling Center will also be closed for the holiday.

However, there are some services that will continue to operate during this time. The Shéiyi X̱aat Hít Youth Shelter will remain open 24/7 while the Zach Gordon Youth Center will be closed on Friday.
In terms of road closures, several streets in downtown Juneau and Douglas will be affected by the Fourth of July parades. The Juneau Police Department has provided details of the parade routes and which streets will be closed during this time.
Additionally, a portion of St. Ann's Avenue in Douglas will be barricaded for the Douglas Fourth of July Soapbox Derby for Kids from Thursday evening until Friday night.
For those planning to use docks and harbors during the holiday, the Statter Harbor and Port Field Offices will be open on Friday, while the Aurora Harbor Office and Port Director's Office will be closed. However, residents are advised that the Douglas Harbor launch ramp may be congested due to increased holiday traffic.
In preparation for the Fourth of July celebrations, CBJ has also released guidelines for personal use of fireworks. For more information on festivities happening around town, residents can visit the Juneau Festival Association and Douglas 4th of July Committee websites.
