~ The City and Borough of Juneau will be observing the Independence Day holiday on Thursday, July 4, with all offices closed. Normal business hours will resume on Friday, July 5.
As the holiday approaches, here's what residents need to know about CBJ facilities and services:
- Capital Transit and CAPITAL AKcess will not be operating on Thursday, July 4. Service will resume on Friday, July 5.
- The Dimond Park Aquatic Center and Augustus Brown Pool will be closed on Thursday, July 4.
- The Dimond Park Field House and Zach Gordon Youth Center will also be closed for the holiday.
- However, the Shéiyi X̱aat Hít Youth Shelter will remain open and operating as usual.
- The Juneau Public Libraries will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Book drops will be locked at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 and reopen on Friday morning, July 5.
- For those looking to enjoy some outdoor activities, the Jensen-Olson Arboretum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.
- The Juneau-Douglas City Museum will be closed for the holiday.

- RecycleWorks and the Household Hazardous Waste facility will also be closed on Thursday, July 4.
In addition to these closures, there are also some road closures to note:
- Several streets in downtown Juneau will be closed for the Juneau Fourth of July parade which begins at 11 a.m. at the Department of Labor building on West 8th Street. The parade route and street closures can be found courtesy of JPD (Juneau Police Department). These streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 9:30 a.m. until around 1 p.m.
- Streets in Douglas will also experience closures or alternative traffic patterns during the Douglas Fourth of July Parade, which begins at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. The parade route goes from 3rd & I Street to Savikko Park Road. More details can be found courtesy of JPD.
- A portion of St. Ann's Avenue in Douglas will be closed for the Douglas Fourth of July Soapbox Derby for Kids from 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 until approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.

For those planning to spend the holiday out on the water, here are some important notes from Docks and Harbors:
- The Statter Harbor (Auke Bay) Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. After hours, field staff can be reached via cell phone at 907-321-0935 or VHF Radio.
- The Aurora Harbor Office will be closed on Thursday, July 4. However, field staff can still be reached via cell phone at 907-321-1115 or VHF Radio.
- The Port Field Office will also be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 with after hours contact available at 907-321-4926 or VHF Radio.
- The Port Director's Office will be closed for the holiday.
- Due to increased holiday traffic, the Douglas Harbor launch ramp may experience congestion and restrictions.
Lastly, residents are reminded to follow CBJ's Fourth of July fireworks personal use guidelines and can find information about festivities around town by visiting the Juneau Festival Association website (juneau4thofjuly.net) or the Douglas Fourth of July Committee website (douglas4thofjuly.com).
