ANCHORAGE, Alaska - AkGlobe -- Anchorage Assembly Member George Martinez announced today that he will seek re-election to the Anchorage Assembly, District 5 – East Anchorage, following a first term defined by tough challenges, bold solutions, and steady leadership focused on delivering for working families.
"Over the last three years, we've had no shortage of challenges, but we didn't flinch. We got to work, stayed focused on solutions, and delivered results for East Anchorage," said Martinez. "There's more to do, and I'm running for re-election because I know we can keep moving our city forward, together."
As Chair of the Assembly's Community & Economic Development Committee, Martinez has led on critical issues that touch every neighborhood: housing, infrastructure, youth opportunity, fiscal responsibility, and safe, connected communities.

Passed the most comprehensive housing tax incentive in city history
Delivered free public transit for youth under 18 and expanded free service for seniors
Focused on pedestrian safety and street maintenance
Secured funding for parks, trails & local infrastructure

Supported mobile crisis teams & care-first public safety models
Advanced childcare access and food security in East Anchorage

"We haven't solved every problem. But we've tackled some of our biggest issues head-on with creativity, collaboration, and determination," said Martinez. "From snow removal and street safety to homelessness and housing, I've brought forward policies rooted in community needs, not ideology."

Martinez emphasized that his second-term agenda will build on that foundation, with continued focus on neighborhood investments, working-class affordability, youth opportunity, and a local government that's both responsive and responsible.
"In a time when national politics feels broken, we've shown that local government still works when you show up, listen, and lead with integrity," said Martinez. "East Anchorage deserves a representative who delivers."
