~ Juneau, Alaska - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region X has announced the opening of a Disaster Recovery Center in Juneau on Wednesday, October 30. The center will provide one-on-one assistance to individuals affected by the August 5-6 Mendenhall glacier flooding.
Located at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library, the center will be staffed by recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration. These specialists will offer information on available services, explain disaster assistance programs, assist with completing or checking the status of applications for federal assistance, and provide information on additional resources offered by the State of Alaska.
The center's hours of operation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Sunday. However, it will be closed from November 4-6 for election activities.

Residents can also apply for disaster assistance in other ways such as going online to DisasterAssistance.gov for English or DisasterAssistance.gov/es for Spanish, using the FEMA mobile app in English or Spanish, or calling the Alaska Call Center at 866-342-1699 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. AKT on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. AKT on Saturdays.
For those with disabilities or other access and functional needs, the Disaster Recovery Center is equipped with assistive and adaptive technology such as assistive listening devices and resources for low vision to ensure equal access to resources.
FEMA emphasizes that disaster recovery assistance is available without regard to race, color, religion, nationality, sex, age, disability, English proficiency or economic status. In case of discrimination against anyone seeking assistance, they can call FEMA toll-free at 833-285-7448.
