AkGlobe News/10157135

https://www.fairbanksalaska.us/sites/default/fi...">It's National Forensic Science Week and we'd like to take this opportunity to recognize the important role that forensic science plays in investigations across the nation, as well as here locally in Fairbanks!

The field of forensic science has many different job positions such as forensic pathologists, death investigators, forensic laboratory scientists, forensic/crime scene technicians, crime scene investigators, and more! While forensic science has played an important role in solving many crimes that FPD has investigated in past years, we became even better equipped to investigate crimes with the addition of a highly trained, dedicated Crime Scene Investigator. Crime Scene Investigators respond to scenes such as death investigations, burglaries, sexual assaults, and large-scale motor vehicle accidents. Crime Scene investigators are able to speak with next of kin and on-scene victims to gather information as well as scientifically process the scene for physical evidence. Crime Scene Investigators are one piece of a scene investigation and are there to assist law enforcement officers and other forensic science positions. All of the job positions within forensic science work together to achieve the goal of a thorough, objective scene investigations.

But along with loving the job itself, I also love all of the amazing people that I get work with at Fairbanks Police. Our law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and administrative staff work long shifts every day to keep the city safe. I feel so grateful to be able to pursue my calling with such wonderfully dedicated people." -CSI Pomeroy

CSI Pomeroy is not only a great asset to our department, but she also assists other Fairbanks-area departments in the area of sample collection for toxicology testing.
