~ Fairbanks, Alaska - The City of Fairbanks has announced that registration for the 2025 Citizen Engagement Academy is now open. This program, presented in eight consecutive weekly sessions, aims to provide citizens with a deeper understanding of how the city operates.
The academy, which will run for one evening per week for 2.5 hours, is open to all citizens who are interested in learning more about their local government. Participants will also be provided with light refreshments at each session. In addition to the weekly sessions, the program includes two additional activities - an all-day facilities tour and a brief graduation ceremony at a City Council meeting.
According to the city's press release, the Citizen Engagement Academy offers free civic education for those who want to learn about the inner workings of Fairbanks. Through interactive department presentations, open discussions, and a facilities tour, participants will gain insight into the daily operations of the city.

The academy aims to equip participants with valuable knowledge and skills that they can use to become more engaged citizens. Some of the takeaways that organizers hope to see include understanding how the city impacts the community, running for public office or volunteering for a city board/commission, learning about city services such as public safety, and exploring the city budget.
Applications for the academy will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with limited space available for 20 participants. Preference will be given to first-time participants. The registration period will remain open until all spots are filled or until February 28th.
