The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting 22 new individuals identified with COVID-19 in Juneau for the time period January 16 – January 19. Twenty of the new cases are residents and two are nonresidents. Of the resident cases, Public Health is attributing six cases to secondary transmission, four to community spread, one to out-of-state travel, and the rest are under investigation. Of the nonresident cases, one individual is in the mining sector and the other is in the seafood sector.
Two of the new resident cases are employees of the City and Borough of Juneau who work in City Hall. COVID-19 workplace mitigation efforts were in place and no member of the public came in contact with the positive employees; Public Health says the potential risk of exposure to the public is low. Out of an abundance of caution, some employees who work on the first floor of City Hall are working at home for the remainder of the week; the Sales Tax Office will be closed to walk-in service this week. The office can be contacted at Sales.Tax.Office@juneau.org. The Cash Office at City Hall is closed for the afternoon today, January 19, and will reopen tomorrow, January 20, with normal operating hours.
