35 new COVID-19 cases & one death reported for Juneau

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) reports 35 new individuals in the Juneau community – 33 residents and two nonresidents – identified with COVID-19 for September 24. In addition, DHSS reports one death in Juneau due to COVID-19 that occurred in August – a male Juneau resident in his 60s. CBJ extends condolences to family members and friends of this individual.

The total number of deaths associated with Juneau is currently 11 – 10 residents (two died out of state) and one nonresident (death occurred outside Juneau).

There are currently 11 people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

The Juneau School District reports three new individuals who've tested positive for COVID-19 and were infectious while in school:
  • One at Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé (All classes operating on regular schedules)
  • One at Harborview Elementary (no classes quarantined as a result)
  • One at Sitʼ Eeti Shaanáx̱ – Glacier Valley School (one class quarantined as a result)

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 1,793 new people identified with COVID-19 – 1,735 are residents and 58 are nonresidents. The state also reports 44 deaths that occurred from April to September – 41 resident deaths and three nonresident deaths – bringing the total number of resident deaths to 514 and nonresident deaths to 18. Alaska has had 103,113 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 4,566 nonresidents.
